Team Rollans: Off to Africa!

We were so happy today because we were able to spend a little time with Mark, Lisa & Calvin before they left the continent for their African adventure! We had a wonderful couple of hours with them at JFK today.

For those of you who don't know Team Rollans, they are the ones who are responsible for Team Solis moving to Jackson Hole all of those years ago. They are two of the coolest people we know and they became even cooler by having a gorgeous baby boy just 2 months after Sullivan was born. (cousins are the new siblings)

Team Rollans is off to Tanzania to manage a luxury resort (there is a link in on the right side of this blog). We are so excited for them as they set off on this new chapter off their lives, which we know is going to be epic! and best of all, we have the best possible excuse to go to Africa!

We love you Team Rollans! Best of luck!

Rainy Day

Today we went to the Audubon House in Prospect Park for Hawk Weekend. Unfortunately the weather did not really cooperate, but we had a nice time anyway. Mike is really enjoying photography in NYC, here is some of his work for the day.

Wall Street: the center of the gloomy universe

Being the big fans of the global economy that we are, we wanted to be witness to the collapse of the global financial system and to celebrate the government seizure of our new bank, Washington Mutual. So joined the jubilant festivities on Wall Street, because really, what funner place could there be these days? It was a pretty gloomy rainy day and Wall Street was pretty much as you'd expect, full of stressed out bankers and traders smoking nervously in the rain, a heavy police force, protesting mimes and worried looking tourists. The street wasn't completely full of sad, worried or pissed off people though, the Asian tourists were pretty excited to pose for pictures in front of the exchange and next to the protesters, grinning from ear to ear in anticipation of all the interest their governments will earn on the staggering debt we will owe them to get out of this mess.
God Bless America, while it lasts.

Sully's big day

Sully really loves NYC. Everyday is an adventure and some days wear him out more then others. Today, he didn't take an afternoon nap, we hoped he would be a good little New Yorker and sleep on the train home, but there was a guido looking guy who very kindly entertained him all the way from Manhatten to our stop by blowing gum bubbles and playing peek-a-boo with his daily post. When we got home he didn't give up either, he spent the evening practicing his new found pointing skills, playing with every toy in the living room and laughing like a maniac. Eventually he fell asleep, sitting up, on the couch.

A gorgeous day in prospect park

Team Baker flew off to California today and Mike started school, leaving Sullivan and I completely on our own. Being adventurous members of Team Solis we went out and took advantage of a whole perfect fall day with absolutely no errands or obligations and took the train all by our selves for the first time! We headed up to 7Th Ave, then walked all the way from the north end of Prospect Park to the Southwest Corner, near our neighborhood.

The first stop was the Grand Army Plaza, a monument to the Union Army of the Civil War. Sully really loved the fountains, then we meandered thru the park stopping for playgrounds, statues, especially pretty trees, squirrels and swans.

Sullivan walked a lot on his own, and I am impressed at his ability to keep up and not get too terribly off track (excursions to chase squirrels aside). I am a little terrified by the amount of energy Sully has to burn everyday, it really is an effort to tire him out. He doesn't even drink juice or eat sugary snacks. Sully will most certainly be athletic and luckily there is no shortage of opportunity to be active here.
